Color and Light

I really enjoy color and light. I like every color and shade, each evoking a different feeling and emotion within me. The fascination stems mainly from my artistic tendencies, but also my logical ones as well. The main reason for studying physics was to understand and explore the universe. Astronomy is my passion, and what better way to study light then to look deep into the universe at all the variety and change that happens throughout.

Now that we have our first snowfall here in New England, I can start to enjoy the many shades and compositions using white. Plus, with all the reflection and refraction of sunlight amongst the snow crystals, I can enjoy a rainbow within the sparkling white.

In addition, I bought some light tubes that are about a half a millimeter in diameter and maybe a foot in length with varying color coatings. I plan to create "light faeries" out of them by fanning the tubes out in the shapes of wings or other wispy shapes and let the ambient light, or sunlight create a visually pleasing show. Because the light going into the tubes is bounced off the inside of the tube, the ends of the tube tend to glow while still lighting up the rest of the length. This will be a fun project, and I hope to make several of them with the amount of tubing I got.

I also want to explore more media in which I can create dazzling displays of light and color in the near future as I learn more techniques of art and expand my confidence in the arts as well. My next goal is to learn glassblowing and create elaborate (or simple ones to start) glass projects so that I can play with light and form in fun ways. Wish me luck!
